During the administration of Brigadier General Porfirio G. González, Decree No. 126 was issued on December 16, 1924, and at the request of the interested parties, this Congregation was named “Melchor Ocampo” in honor of the illustrious Secretary of Foreign Affairs under President Benito Juárez. This decree took effect on January 1, 1925, the date on which the “Civil Registry” of this municipality was also established.
The municipality of Melchor Ocampo is located in the northeastern part of the state at coordinates 25°03′ north latitude and 99°33′ west longitude, at an elevation of 145 meters above sea level. It borders General Treviño to the north, Los Herreras to the south, Los Aldamas to the east, and Cerralvo to the west.
