It was named Salinas because of its salty soil and Victoria in honor of General Guadalupe Victoria.
Salinas Victoria is located in the central region of the state of Nuevo León, also known as the Gulf region. It lies northwest of the capital, Monterrey, between longitude 25°58′ and latitude 100°18′, 32 km from Monterrey, at an elevation of 464 m above sea level. It borders 11 municipalities: to the north, Villaldama and Sabinas Hidalgo; to the south, General Escobedo and Apodaca; to the east, Higueras, Ciénega de Flores, and General Zuazua; and to the west, Mina, Hidalgo, Abasolo, and El Carmen.
