It means "fishing spot" and derives from the river of the same name that runs through the entire region.
It is located in the central part of the state, at coordinates 25°47' north latitude and 100°3' west longitude, at an elevation of 330 meters above sea level. It borders Marín to the north and Dr. González to the south, as well as Cadereyta Jiménez and Apodaca. To the east, it borders Los Ramones, and to the west, Apodaca. It is approximately 36 km from the state capital.
