State Parks You Should Visit in Nuevo León

If someone tells you that Nuevo León is all about industry and cities, it’s because they don’t really know the state. We have plenty of natural areas here that you can visit and enjoy, so today we’re sharing a few with you to keep in mind during your visit.

1. Asta Bandera Viewpoint Park

This park is located within the city and offers a view of Monterrey unlike any other. You’ll also get a closer look at the monumental flag that flies here and can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. From the observation deck, you can see landmarks such as the Viaducto de la Unidad (cable-stayed) bridge and the Huasteca Canyon to the southwest; to the north, the Cuauhtemoc Brewery and the UANL; to the east, Cerro de la Silla, Tecnológico de Monterrey, and downtown; to the southwest, the Sierra Madre Oriental, and much more.

2. Cola de Caballo Ecotourism Park

Probably the most famous park in Nuevo León. The Cola de Caballo Ecotourism Park is located in the “Magical Town” of Santiago. What makes this park interesting is that it features a massive waterfall bearing the same name as the park. It’s a favorite among many locals, as the park is equipped with barbecue pits, allowing you to enjoy the ultimate local experience by grilling meat with friends or family.

3. García Caves

The town of García is not only home to the legendary wrestler Blue Demon, but also boasts one of the most spectacular natural wonders in Nuevo León. These caves are said to be approximately 50 to 60 million years old, but they remained hidden for thousands of years until they were rediscovered in 1843. Today, they are one of our visitors’ favorite destinations.

4. Bustamante Caves Recreation Park

These caves, also known as the Palmito Caves, are located in the Pueblo Mágico of Bustamante and are unique in that they are the only ones with universal accessibility, meaning that anyone, including those with mobility impairments, can explore them.

5. El Salto Zaragoza Recreation Park

One of Nuevo León’s best-kept secrets. El Salto is a paradise of waterfalls and turquoise pools where you can camp and spend a weekend connecting with nature. You also have the option of renting a cabin if you’re looking for more comfort—just remember to check availability and book in advance.
