Mier y Noriega was named in honor and memory of the illustrious native of Nuevo León, national independence hero, and prominent politician, Dr. Fray Servando Teresa de Mier y Noriega y Guerra, a native of Monterrey who, together with Don Miguel Ramos Arizpe, drafted the 1824 Constitution.
Mier y Noriega is located in the southern part of the state, at its extreme geographical coordinates: 23° 34′ north latitude and 23° 14′ north latitude; 99° 54′ east longitude and 100° 21′ west longitude. It borders the municipality of Doctor Arroyo, Nuevo León, to the north and west; the municipality of Guadalcazar, San Luis Potosí, to the south; and the municipality of Bustamante, Tamaulipas, to the east.
