The name Lampazos comes from the presence of these plants in the municipality, and “de Naranjo” honors General Francisco Naranjo.
It is located in the northwestern part of the state, in the Gulf Coast region, at coordinates 27°01′ north latitude and 100°31′ west longitude, at an elevation of 335 meters above sea level.
It borders Anáhuac and the state of Coahuila to the north; Bustamante, Villaldama, and Sabinas Hidalgo to the south; Anáhuac and Vallecillo to the east; and Juárez and the state of Coahuila to the west. The distance from Monterrey to Lampazos is 164 km.
